City of Pikeville Shares Update about Ongoing Broadband Project Public private partnership will provide many residents with access to 1 Gigabit speeds and next generation Wi-Fi powered by Plume in coming months
PIKEVILLE, Ky. (November 16, 2022) – The City of Pikeville provided updates regarding the construction of a brand-new fiber broadband network coming to parts of the city as a result of a public private partnership. Intermountain Cable/Gearheart Fiber has partnered with the City to build and operate the fiber network, which offers speeds up to 1 Gigabit and next-generation Wi-Fi.
Intermountain Cable/Gearheart Fiber contracted with Henkels & McCoy, a nationwide firm, to construct Phase I of the broadband system which includes most of the “horseshoe” of downtown Pikeville and the surrounding areas. Businesses and residents in the Phase I area can expect to have access to the new broadband network in the first quarter of 2023.
“The City of Pikeville is excited to be partnering with Intermountain Cable/Gearheart Fiber to provide high-quality broadband service to so many of our residents and businesses,” said Pikeville City Manager Philip Elswick. “As we continue working to make Pikeville a sought-after home for families, businesses, and tourists, high-speed broadband is a critical piece of infrastructure that we’re confident will lead to many opportunities for our Community.”

As of November 16th, fiber placement for Phase I is more than sixty percent Complete.
